Special Attunement: As the Angel of the Pacific Rim, Samriel is always aware of the flow of trade across the Pacific Rim. He does not necessarily know exactly where individual shipments or goods are, but he is aware of the dollar value of goods trading hands between Pacific Rim nations at all times.

Special Rite: Facilitate the signing of an international business contract that increases the volume of trade moving across the Pacific Rim.

Samriel is a rather old-fashioned angel. He arrived in the corporeal realm in 1856, two years after Commodore Perry reopened Japan to foreigners. Marc put Samriel in charge of Japanese-American trade, and Samriel's first Role was that of a Japanese merchant. Besides encouraging business with the foreigners, Samriel sought to improve the status of merchants in Japanese society (the Japanese -- particularly the samurai class -- had long held a low opinion of merchants and mercantilism).

As Samuru Minemata, Samriel had a lot to do with Japan's rise as an industrial nation. Unfortunately, he did not foresee the Meiji Restoration or the military dictatorship that would subvert his efforts at turning Japan into a world-class economic power, and put it on the path of military aggression instead. World War II undid much of Samriel's work in trying to increase trade among Asian nations. He left Japan and took up residence in San Francisco instead, and spent much of the war sulking and regarding himself as a failure.

When the war ended, however, Marc ordered Samriel back to Tokyo to assist in the reconstruction efforts. The Seraph threw himself into his work, reviving Minemata Industries, and recovered much of his self-esteem as Japan rose to prominence, this time as a peaceful but aggressive economic power.

Most of Samriel's work centered around the United States and Japan, but in the process he worked with many other Pacific Rim nations that did business with both of those two superpowers. He had contacts with the factions trying to bring capitalism to China, and his extensive network had a great deal of influence in Hong Kong. He familiarized himself with South Korea's burgeoning industries, and tried to move more business capital into Mexico and South America, so that they would have more to trade with Asia and the U.S.

In 1982, Marc sponsored Samriel's application for the Word of The Pacific Rim, which the Seraphim Council granted. Samriel still spends a lot of time in Japan, but he's allowed his Japanese Role (putative great-grandson of the first Samuru Minemata) to age and take less of a direct role in running the Minemata Corporation. Meanwhile, he maintains a second Role, Samuel Coyne, an international entrepeneur based in San Francisco. His executive assistant is a Soldier of God in service to Marc named Marilyn Chang.

As the Angel of The Pacific Rim, Samriel spends a lot of time traveling, but his "home base" is San Francisco. He has locations (and minions) in Mexico City, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong who can perform the Corporeal Song of Location to allow him instant access to those places.

Samriel acquired his Sword of Laurence by purchasing it. It was once the property of a powerful Elohite of the Sword, who Fell during World War II. The sword was presumed lost, but Samriel went to great lengths to locate and procure it from the American Colonel who'd brought it home as a war trophy. He would surrender it if Laurence ever asked for it, but the Archangel of Swords apparently feels the Seraph acquired it by honorable means and has allowed him to keep it. Samriel has been taking kenjutsu lessons so that he will actually know how to wield it.

He is a powerful patron, and a very valuable ally in San Francisco. He can provide almost unlimited amounts of cash, though he does not hand it out freely -- he is an angel of Trade, after all. He is a somewhat stiff, bureaucratic counterpart to Lovejoy Raza Green. The two angels have vastly different perspectives and frequently clash (peacefully) over how to maintain Heaven's hold on San Francisco, but they respect one another, and will form a united front against diabolical opposition, and they certainly won't allow any newly arrived Servitors to stir things up.
